ASeM ABa: Anas Aremeyaw Anas Speaks Out Following $18 Million Defamation Victory Over Kennedy Agyapong

Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has broken his silence following his landmark victory in the Essex County Superior Court in New Jersey, where he won an $18 million defamation lawsuit against Kennedy Agyapong.

In his statement, Anas described the ruling as more than just a legal victory. “This decision is not merely a legal triumph—it is a resounding affirmation that falsehoods and character assassination have no place in our society,” he said.

Anas further contrasted the ruling with his previous legal struggles in Ghana, specifically highlighting his unsuccessful 2018 lawsuit against Agyapong. Despite Agyapong admitting he had no evidence to support his accusations, Anas recalled how the court, presided over by Justice Eric Baah, denied him justice and even portrayed him as a criminal. "The US system has shown me what real justice looks like," Anas noted.

Reflecting on his recent victory, Anas pointed out that Agyapong presented the same evidence, including the infamous "Who Watches the Watchman" footage, which had been previously used in Ghana. However, this time, the case was resolved in Anas’s favor, underscoring that truth and accountability prevail even against powerful figures.

Anas also issued a warning to politicians: “You cannot take the media for granted. The press plays an indispensable role in scrutinizing power and holding leaders accountable,” he said, emphasizing the crucial role of the media in society.

In closing, Anas expressed gratitude to his legal team, supporters, and all those who stood by him throughout the process. He vowed to continue his fight against corruption, reaffirming his commitment to the cause.

In a motion filed by his legal team, Ofori-Atta argues that the OSP's actions violate the principles of administrative justice, specifically the right to a fair process and the protection of his personal dignity.
