Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) of Ghana, has expressed his profound gratitude to the Ghanaian people, the government, and the Ghana Police Service following the official announcement of his replacement. In a statement released on March 14, 2025, Dr. Dampare extended heartfelt thanks to God and to all Ghanaians for their steadfast support, prayers, and goodwill during his tenure.
He described the outpouring of affection and support from across the country—particularly in the 24 hours following the announcement of his removal—as both moving and humbling. "I am immensely grateful for the blessings and support I received during my time as IGP," he remarked.
Dr. Dampare also expressed special appreciation to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who appointed him to lead the Police Service, noting with pride that this appointment made him the youngest IGP in Ghana’s Fourth Republic. Additionally, he acknowledged former President John Dramani Mahama for the positive working relationship they shared in the final stages of his tenure and commended the ongoing support from national leadership in strengthening the police service.
He recognized the invaluable contributions of religious and traditional leaders, praising their guidance, prayers, and wise counsel throughout his time in office. "Their contributions were indispensable to my leadership," he said. Dr. Dampare also thanked sister security agencies for their collaboration in maintaining law and order across the nation.
The former IGP expressed his gratitude to civil society organizations for their constructive engagement and contributions to police reforms. He also extended thanks to the international community and diplomatic partners for their continued support, partnerships, and external reviews that shaped the growth of the Police Service.
Reflecting on his 35-year journey in law enforcement, Dr. Dampare described his rise from General Constable to IGP as a great privilege and honor. "I am deeply thankful for the opportunity to serve the Ghana Police Service over the past 35 years—starting as a General Constable and rising through the ranks to become the youngest Commissioner of Police and the youngest IGP in the Fourth Republic," he shared.
He paid tribute to the Police Management Board (POMAB) and officers at all levels for their unwavering dedication and commitment to national security and public safety. "The tireless efforts of the rank and file have played a critical role in preserving peace, law, and order during my tenure," Dr. Dampare stated.
Although stepping down from his role as IGP, Dr. Dampare emphasized that his passion for national service remains unchanged. "I have devoted 35 of my nearly 55 years to serving Ghana with discipline, integrity, and honor. I remain energetic and committed to contributing to the growth and development of our country in any capacity," he concluded.
