Couple Arrested for Abandoning Son in Bush with Chains

The Awutu Bereku District Police Command has apprehended a couple accused of chaining and abandoning their nine-year-old son in a bush at Gomoa Nkwantanan. Although the reasons behind the act remain unclear, sources from Citi News suggest that the child was allegedly punished for his perceived stubbornness.

James Mensah, a local resident of Nkwantanan, who discovered the child, shared the harrowing details of the incident. He found the boy chained and abandoned without food for two days. "I found the child in the bush with a chain around his leg. When I asked him why, he told me that his father had chained him and left him there to die. I immediately reported the matter to the Awutu Bereku Police Station. The father was invited for questioning and is currently detained as investigations continue," Mensah said.

Reports indicate that the suspects, Bismark Odoi, 35, and Saviour Arthur, 33, initially fled the scene but were later captured by police to assist in the investigation. The boy revealed that his punishment was a result of being late for school. "I was late for school, and when my father asked me why, I explained. However, he decided to punish me. He chained my leg and took me to a nearby bush, leaving me there for two days, chained to a tree," the boy explained.

The police are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.

In a motion filed by his legal team, Ofori-Atta argues that the OSP's actions violate the principles of administrative justice, specifically the right to a fair process and the protection of his personal dignity.
