Kelvyn Boy Discusses the Struggles of Staying True to Ghanaian Sound in Music

Ghanaian artist Kelvyn Boy has shared his views on why some local musicians are increasingly adopting a Nigerian style in their music. Speaking during an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Kelvyn Boy expressed frustration over the lack of recognition for purely Ghanaian sounds in the global music scene.

“We’re facing challenges when we stick to a typical Ghanaian sound. It often feels like it doesn’t go as far. Even if we’re making progress locally, we still wonder why others are getting international recognition,” Kelvyn Boy explained.

He went on to highlight the approach of Nigerian musicians, who often incorporate Ghanaian elements into their music. "Nigerians don’t just stick to their style; they mix it with our own. The fusion of both styles is what gives them a unique sound," he remarked.

The artist emphasized the importance of finding a balance in music, pointing out that many Ghanaians enjoy Nigerian music that blends in elements of the local sound. “At the end of the day, it’s Ghanaians who are also enjoying Nigerian songs, and those tracks often have some Ghanaian influence. The key is achieving a balance, and that’s something we’re still working on,” he added.

In the meantime, Kelvyn Boy has released a new single, "Break It," which further explores his thoughts on musical fusion and balance. His perspective on this evolving trend is sure to resonate with both fans and industry professionals as the conversation around music styles continues to develop.
