Mrs. Samira Bawumia, the founder and chair of the Africa Women and Children Conference (AFRIWOCC), has passionately called for immediate investment and inclusive solutions to tackle the global clean cooking crisis. Speaking at the 2025 Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) Global Forum in Barbados, Mrs. Bawumia emphasized the severe consequences of inadequate access to clean cooking, stressing that this is a pressing issue that affects real lives.
“These statistics are not mere numbers; they represent the daily struggles of mothers, children, and families who endure the harmful effects of inadequate cooking solutions,” she remarked. “This is not just a public health crisis—it's a climate challenge and a gender equity issue. We must act with urgency.”
Mrs. Bawumia further highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7), which aims to ensure universal access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy by 2030. She pointed to key global initiatives, such as Mission 300—a collaborative project by the World Bank and the African Development Bank that seeks to bring electricity to 300 million Africans by 2030—and Forward7, a Middle East Green Initiative designed to positively impact 750 million lives through clean cooking innovation.
In her speech, she called for stronger partnerships to drive systemic change, underlining that progress towards SDG7 will require a collective effort. SEforALL, a global initiative focused on accelerating the achievement of SDG7, continues to work with governments, businesses, and international organizations to mobilize investments and implement policies that facilitate universal energy access.
The SEforALL Global Forum serves as a vital platform for fostering global collaboration and securing sustainable energy solutions, providing critical momentum in the pursuit of clean cooking access for all.
