Heathrow Airport has announced a full closure for Friday following a fire at a nearby electrical substation that supplies power to the airport. According to the London Fire Brigade, the fire is still ongoing, causing a loss of power to Terminal 2, Terminal 4, and affecting around 5,000 homes in the surrounding area.
As a precautionary measure, counter-terrorism police are involved in investigating the incident, as confirmed by sources to the BBC.
Heathrow, which is the busiest airport in Europe, has warned passengers of significant disruptions. More than 1,350 flights are expected to be affected today, with the ripple effects likely extending well beyond the airport itself. Transport experts suggest that the impact could be felt by travelers on flights to and from distant destinations.
