American singer Lady Gaga has boldly addressed the issue of ageism within the pop music industry, asserting that it's absurd to label women in their late 30s as “old” for a pop star. At the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards, held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 17, the 38-year-old singer received the Innovator Award, and used the moment to speak out against the prevalent age biases.
Reflecting on her career, Gaga remarked, “I don’t quite know how to process this because receiving an award for my entire career at 38 is hard to wrap my head around.” She continued, “Society may view a woman in her late 30s as old for a pop star, which is insane, but I promise you, I’m just getting started.”
In other news from the awards, Nigerian artists Burna Boy and Tems lost the inaugural World Artist of the Year award to South Africa’s Tyla.
