The Kano State High Court has sentenced a housewife to death for the murder of 8-year-old Aisha Sani, the daughter of her childhood friend. The accused, Fadila, was found guilty of kidnapping the young girl and subsequently causing her death by throwing her into a well.
According to reports, Fadila abducted Aisha on July 14, 2019, at around 4:45 pm from the Tudun Wada Quarters in Kano. The defendant had claimed that Aisha's mother, who had traveled to Ghana, entrusted her to Fadila’s care. Fadila then proceeded to keep the child until her return.
However, on July 17, 2019, at approximately 6:30 pm, the accused lured Aisha to a well located in the Tukuntawa Quarters, where she tragically threw the child into the deep well, causing her death. The body of the young girl was recovered two weeks later from a well in the Gandu Albasa Quarters.
During the court proceedings, Judge Yusuf Muhammad-Ubale delivered the verdict, sentencing Fadila to death by hanging. He stated, "I hereby sentence the defendant to death by hanging for kidnapping and throwing the victim into a well, which led to her death."
This sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences of such heinous acts.
