Rev. John Ntim Fordjour Reflects on NPP's Loss in Assin Central and Kennedy Agyapong's Impact Rev. John
Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, expressed his belief that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would have retained the Assin Central seat had Kennedy Agyapong contested in the recent elections. Fordjour attributed Agyapong's potential victory to his significant political influence and past electoral successes.
Agyapong, who had a history of consistently securing the Assin Central seat, chose not to seek re-election, opting instead to run in the NPP's 2024 presidential primaries. Speaking on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV, Rev. Ntim Fordjour acknowledged Agyapong’s unique ability to connect with voters.
“He [Kennedy Agyapong] has his own way of winning elections. Even though the last two elections were challenging for him due to a slight decline in his voter numbers, he is still Kennedy Agyapong. He has a remarkable capacity to galvanize the electorate and ensure their support. The change in the candidate also played a role in the outcome. Agyapong has contributed greatly to Assin Central, and even in the face of voter apathy, there remain supporters loyal to him,” he remarked.
Fordjour further noted that the NDC had successfully secured both Assin Central and Assin North, leaving the NPP with only Assin South. He emphasized the need for strategic efforts to recover the lost seats and strengthen the party's position.
“We have held Assin Central for many years, and we expected to retain it. Unfortunately, we lost it. This highlights the necessity of focused strategies to reclaim the seats we’ve lost,” he concluded.
