Nigerians have revealed the identity and photo of the provost from a nursing school in Agbor, Delta State, who issued a query letter to a student for failing to refer to First Lady Remi Tinubu as “mother” during her visit. This discovery came to light following a viral post on X (formerly Twitter), which generated widespread public reactions.
The controversy began when a video surfaced online showing students from the nursing school refusing to chant along when a song was sung in honor of Remi Tinubu. The video depicted a man leading the chant with the words, “Remi Tinubu, na our mama be this oo,” but instead of following suit, the students responded with, “Na your mama be this oo.” One of the students later posted the video online, prompting the school's administration to take action.
In response, the student who shared the video was identified and issued a query letter by the school. The letter soon leaked online, sparking public outrage. The negative reaction led to intervention from the Delta State Commissioner for Health, who ordered the provost to withdraw the query letter.
Shortly thereafter, the identity and photo of the provost responsible for the disciplinary action were uncovered by Nigerians. A user on X, @Balatic, shared the provost's details, stating: “If you know this nice provost, Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, please tell her Nigerians are about to show her massive love for fighting for their humiliated First Lady. She will soon feel the massive love of Nigerians for being a responsible provost. She doesn’t know what’s coming.”
The post sparked an outpouring of reactions from social media users. Some questioned the official nature of the disciplinary action, while others criticized the provost's decision. Notable comments included:
@Frankeelodeo: “Which official information did she divulge? 'Na your mama be that oh' has turned into official confidential information.”
@ehimaggie: “This is rubbish! I hope this person gets help, and the provost gets what she’s looking for!”
@EboStanley: “If you have the provost’s phone number, please disclose it… Let’s reach out to her.”
@AdaNri1L: “All I can say after reading this standardized disciplinary action is, no wonder many Nigerian nurses are callous!”
@Tobizz114530: “Sometimes I wonder why God can’t just destroy these wicked souls parading themselves as politicians and people in power… make them just leave this earth for us.”
@ObeleAku: “There is no way that section relates to the video post of that girl… Official information is something like selling forms or aiding a staff-run insider business with school information.”
@skinnieboi10: “According to the handbook, how can she categorize the video she posted as official information? Nigerian people in authority usually have a twisted way of interpreting rules to suit their own narratives.”
@DIkwuagwu: “But that’s not official information! It was good publicity for a public event that happened in school.”
The controversy continues to unfold as Nigerians voice their opinions on the actions of both the provost and the student involved.
