Dancehall artist Shatta Wale has demanded an apology from Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, the former Finance Minister, after the latter made claims about the non-implementation of a betting tax.
During a press briefing following the 2025 budget statement, Dr. Amin Adam stated that the previous government had failed to implement a betting tax. However, this assertion has been contradicted by the current Finance Minister, who insists that the betting tax was introduced in the second quarter of 2024. According to the current government, approximately GHS 80 billion was collected in betting tax during that period.
Shatta Wale, known for his direct and often controversial style, took to social media to respond to Dr. Adam's remarks. He questioned the former minister's statement and urged him to apologize to the people of Ghana. Wale expressed his frustration, writing, "Please sir, who is the ‘We’ you’re referring to? Or are you talking about ‘Wee’? Because it’s clear that ‘Wee’ cannot implement that... It’s people like you who can. Do you think the ‘We’ is you and your coat? Don’t forget that you were a worker under the NPP government. Which ‘We’ are you talking about?"
The artist also warned that unless Dr. Adam issues a public apology, the political party he represents may face significant backlash in future elections. "Just apologize to Ghanaians, or your ‘We’ party will suffer," he added, emphasizing his point with a stern tone.
Shatta Wale's comments have sparked a fresh debate around the issue of betting tax in Ghana and the role of politicians in its implementation.
