Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and an aide to former Sports Minister, has strongly rebutted allegations made by Guinness World Record sing-a-thon contender Afua Asantewaa. Asantewaa had claimed that she received no support from the NPP government during her record attempt.
In a recent interview on Accra FM, Asantewaa asserted that the only assistance she received from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the then NPP flagbearer, was medication for a sore throat. However, Mustapha vehemently disagreed with her account, describing her statements as "falsehoods and ingratitude."
"This lady is not being truthful and is showing a lack of gratitude," Mustapha remarked. He further explained that during Asantewaa’s initial sing-a-thon attempt in Accra, Vice President Bawumia, with the involvement of Mustapha, Sammi Awuku, and Socrates, not only visited her but also made a generous donation. The donation included GHC 20,000 in cash, packs of food from Papaye, bottled water, and soft drinks for her team. Mustapha personally delivered these items on behalf of the Vice President to her husband and father.
Additionally, Mustapha revealed that after the event, Asantewaa and her family visited the Vice President to express their appreciation. In return, Dr. Bawumia sponsored a vacation for her at Senchi.
"Why the falsehood?" Mustapha questioned. "We all supported her because we recognized a young Ghanaian woman striving to make her mark on the world stage. I sincerely hope she does not continue spreading this negative narrative."
