Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, has shared that his appointment was met with resistance due to his status as an outsider. However, he credits his success in securing the role to the strong backing of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of the Ashanti Kingdom.

In a recent statement, Prof. Addai-Mensah revealed that certain individuals were opposed to his appointment, arguing that he was not a local and, therefore, undeserving of the position. He also mentioned a particular woman who questioned his age. Despite the opposition, Otumfuo's steadfast support played a crucial role in his appointment.

"Had it not been for Otumfuo, I would not have become the CEO of Komfo Anokye," he said.

Although he acknowledged that some individuals remain opposed to his leadership, Prof. Addai-Mensah emphasized that this has not deterred him from working in the best interest of the hospital. His appointment is set to run until November 30, 2026, but he indicated that he would respectfully step down if the President deems it necessary. However, if the President wishes for him to complete his term, he will continue to serve with dedication.
