On March 11, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Navrongo, located in the Upper East Region, when an electrician in his early 30s lost his life while performing maintenance work. The deceased, employed by Alaye Electricals, was working on a utility pole near Navrongo Secondary School to resolve a power outage in the area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the young electrician had climbed the pole after the power failure. However, while he was still on the pole, electricity was unexpectedly restored, resulting in electrocution and his immediate death.
According to a local reporter speaking with Citi News, “There was an issue with the high-tension poles, and he was called to fix it. The power was off when he arrived, but during his work, the electricity was unexpectedly turned back on, leading to his tragic death.”
Following the incident, his body was recovered and transported to the War Memorial Hospital mortuary in Navrongo.
This heartbreaking event follows a similar incident in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, where an unidentified young man was electrocuted while attempting to steal cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Potsin. The community discovered his body lying face down near an electric pole close to the Potsin T.I. Ahmadiya Senior High School. Residents noted a series of power outages in the preceding days and later found that electrical cables had been stolen near the site where the body was located.
