Legal practitioner and political commentator Ansa-Asare has called for a new approach to leadership in Ghana, suggesting that the time has come for the nation to elect a woman as president.
According to him, Ghana’s persistent challenges with corruption and lack of accountability demonstrate the need for fresh thinking at the highest levels of government.
“What have we done wrong as a nation? How many times has this country punished wrongdoers? How many of our ministers have been held accountable or even stigmatized for corruption?” he questioned.
Speaking on The KSM Show, which was monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Ansa-Asare lamented that Ghana’s corruption recovery systems are deeply compromised.
“Elsewhere, they name and shame you, recover the loot, and imprison you.
Here, the loot is shared among those entrusted to recover it—including the courts,” he alleged.
Ansa-Asare placed the burden of responsibility squarely on Ghana’s top leadership.
“Let us hold our leaders accountable—the President, the Vice President, the Speaker of Parliament, the Chief Justice, and the Chairman of the Council of State. These five must take responsibility,” he stated.
He further emphasized the need for a shift in leadership direction, advocating for a female-led future.
“Next year and in the coming years, I’ll be advocating for change—that the next president must be a woman.
We’ve tried our fathers; nothing seems to be working. Maybe our mothers will make the difference.”
Citing Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as an example of capable female leadership, Ansa-Asare remarked:
“The other day, I said, oh, let the Professor be the next president.”
