The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, revealed that furnishing the bank’s newly built headquarters will require an expenditure of $11 million. The cutting-edge facility, located in Accra, was officially opened on November 20, 2024, by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of prominent government officials, BoG leadership, and key figures from the financial sector.

The BoG’s headquarters project had previously faced significant criticism, particularly from the then-Minority in Parliament, who called for the resignation of former Governor Dr. Ernest Addison and his deputies. Critics raised concerns about the necessity of such an expensive project amid the country’s ongoing economic challenges.

During his address to Parliament on March 5, 2025, Dr. Asiama defended the decision, citing that the previous BoG office had serious structural issues and was no longer suitable for use. He also reassured lawmakers that the central bank remains dedicated to prudent financial management and upholding its mission of ensuring financial stability in the country.
