The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has emphasized the need for continued efforts toward achieving gender equality, acknowledging that while significant progress has been made, much work remains to be done.

In a statement issued to commemorate International Women’s Day, Madam Mensa extended congratulations to all female staff members of the Commission, commending their dedication, resilience, and professionalism. She highlighted their pivotal role in ensuring the success of Ghana’s December 7, 2024, general elections, underscoring their contribution to peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral outcomes.

"Your hard work and commitment have been instrumental in ensuring the peaceful, credible, and transparent elections we witnessed as a nation," she stated.

Madam Mensa also acknowledged the strides Ghana has made in advancing gender equality and expressed gratitude to the women who have paved the way for future generations. However, she pointed out that significant barriers still limit the full participation of women and girls in various aspects of society.

Referencing this year’s International Women’s Day theme, "Accelerating Action: A Call for Gender Equality," she called on stakeholders to intensify their efforts in creating a world where women and girls have equal opportunities and representation.

"Let’s unite and accelerate action to build a more just and equitable society for all," she urged.

Furthermore, she encouraged young women and girls to remain determined and confident in their pursuits, emphasizing that their strength, courage, and resilience continue to inspire others.

Madam Mensa also paid tribute to the women who have contributed to the Commission’s success over the past three decades, reiterating the institution’s ongoing commitment to gender equality.

"Congratulations to all the women who have made a difference in the Electoral Commission of Ghana over the last three decades. We honor you today and look forward to continuing the fight for gender equality together," she concluded.
