Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has revealed the severe dangers he faces in his line of work, disclosing that his job regularly exposes him to life-threatening risks due to its nature.

Speaking at the Constitution Day Public Lecture, Agyebeng described his role as a "thankless job" that often places him in direct conflict with some of the worst aspects of human behavior. “The position of Special Prosecutor is a thankless job. It attracts numerous enemies and forces you into confrontations with the lowest forms of debasement in humans. You do not seek this role; it finds you,” he said, highlighting the inherent challenges of investigating corruption.

Agyebeng also addressed the public’s contradictory expectations of his office, noting the paradox that surrounds his work. “Everyone wants the Special Prosecutor to do his job, yet no one wants the Special Prosecutor to do his job. It all depends on the subject of the investigation,” he explained.

He elaborated on the resistance he encounters, stating that while there is broad consensus on the need to combat corruption, individuals tend to push back when investigations touch them personally. “No one wants to yield to scrutiny. No one willingly accepts indictment. No one welcomes being investigated,” Agyebeng remarked. “When individuals are personally implicated, there is always strong resistance aimed at deflecting accountability.”

The Special Prosecutor did not shy away from underscoring the serious personal risks associated with his role, explaining that some of the people he faces will stop at nothing to eliminate him if the opportunity arises. “My security risk is extremely high, and I must always remain vigilant against potential attacks on my life,” he stated, underlining the perilous nature of his position.
