Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has been handed a 15-year prison sentence by the Accra Circuit Court for orchestrating a fraudulent money-doubling scheme that deceived many unsuspecting Ghanaians.
Agradaa, a former traditional priestess who later reinvented herself as a Christian evangelist, made headlines in 2022 after appearing on television claiming she had spiritual powers to double cash. Enticed by the promise of instant financial gain, many people gave her large sums of money, expecting to receive double the amount—a promise that never materialized.
On July 3, 2025, the court found her guilty of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence. Prior to sentencing, Agradaa underwent a mandatory pregnancy test, which confirmed she was not pregnant, allowing the legal process to proceed.
Her sentencing has drawn widespread attention, largely because of her controversial shift from spiritualist practices to televangelism. Her church, Heaven Way Champion Ministries, was at the center of the scam, drawing in many of its members with promises of miraculous wealth.
In addition to her 15-year jail term, Agradaa was ordered to serve her sentence with hard labour, reflecting the serious nature of her crimes and the deep harm caused to her victims.
Legal analysts and social commentators have hailed the verdict as a pivotal step in tackling religious fraud and holding spiritual leaders accountable. The case sends a strong warning against using religion as a front to exploit the public's trust and financial desperation.
