A tragic incident occurred in Twifo Praso, located in the Twifo Atti Morkwa District of the Central Region, when a 14-year-old student from Twifo Praso DA Basic School drowned in the Pra River.
The victim, identified as Nana Asamoah, also known as “Yesu Papa,” had been fishing with three friends when he reportedly boasted of his ability to swim across the deepest part of the river. Despite warnings from his companions, Asamoah jumped into the river, only to disappear beneath the water's surface. His friends made desperate attempts to locate him, but their efforts proved unsuccessful.
In their distress, the group sought help from the elders of Twifo Praso, who promptly organized a search team. After an extensive search, Asamoah's body was recovered, following traditional rituals led by Okyeame D.C. Kwakye of Twifo Tuffoe.
Superintendent Charles Addei Boateng, the District Police Commander, confirmed the incident and stated that Asamoah's body was taken to the Twifo Atti Morkwa District Hospital mortuary for further investigation.
The drowning has shocked the local community, leading many to urge greater caution and respect for the natural dangers posed by the river.
